Extra Energy Has Ceased Trading
Late yesterday afternoon, it was announced that energy supplier Extra Energy has ceased trading with immediate effect. It is likely that all contracts that were secured through Extra Energy will be taken over by another supplier, however this does mean that all business customers of Extra Energy will no longer be secured in gas or electricity agreements.
Ofgem has advised those effected to sit tight until a new supplier is announced. Don’t panic, we wouldn’t expect this will take too long for the overtaking supplier to be chosen and for customers to be contacted.
In the meantime, we have a few recommendations for Extra Energy Customers:
- Effectively you are now ‘out of contract’ – we would advise looking at a new supplier and checking the current market rates because if you enter a variable price plan this could prove to be expensive.
- Take meter readings – Taking note of these will avoid any confusion when your energy is taken on by a new supplier. These can also be used should you decide to take out a contract with a new supplier.
- Find your most recent statement – This contains all the information you need to check against the new suppliers and their terms. Knowing your accurate consumption, unit rates, standing charges and meter number means the quoted you are gaining will be accurate.
Depending on when you took out your contract with Extra Energy means you could see a dramatic difference in the current market’s offerings, for example if your contract was agreed two years ago the increase you will notice that prices has increased significantly.
